Joe Casely-Hayford was a British fashion designer who combined Savile Row techniques with innovative design practices inspired by London’s East End. From the launch of his eponymous label in 1984 to his death in 2019, Casely-Hayford’s deconstructed tailoring attracted the attention of celebrities, from Irish band U2 to British politicians. The designer's influences changed from season to season but included club culture, grunge, hip-hop, and sportswear. In 1993, Casely-Hayford was the first designer to be approached by British high-street retailer Topshop to collaborate on a womenswear range. His role as creative director for Gieves & Hawkes (2005-2008) earned him international renown, and he received an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to fashion in 2007.
